Private briefing

Here's what we're building.

This is a private page. You've been invited to see it because we trust your honest opinions... we are and always will be a feedback-focused company.

We're a small team, building the best product possible using our collective experience, but if you have thoughts on features, design, interface, pricing, potential buyers, please write to us at howard@theken.uk.

First reactions.

"This is great; phones are too small, I can't use them."

Ken's grandfather (the device's namesake)

"Nothing exists with this focus on simplicity."

The carer interface.

The person buying The Ken isn't the person using it. They're the adult child, the partner, the carer. They need to know things are OK without having to phone and ask.

The Ken includes a dedicated management portal, built for the buyer. From any phone or computer, you can see:

Peace of mind for you
Medication adherence
See which reminders were acknowledged and which were missed. Get alerts when something needs attention.
Call activity
Who called, when, and for how long. Missed calls and voicemails are visible from the portal.
Message history
Every message sent and received, visible from the portal. Send photos, text, or voice messages remotely.
Remote settings
Add contacts, change photos, adjust quiet hours, update reminders. Everything is manageable without touching the device.
Daily summary emails
A daily digest of activity: calls made, reminders acknowledged, device usage. You know they're OK without having to ask.
Multi-carer access
Invite siblings, partners, or professional carers. Each person gets their own login with appropriate permissions.

Designed for ultimate ease of use.

The Ken doesn't require any complex gestures. No pinching, swiping, double-tapping, long-pressing, dragging, or clicking on subtle buttons.

Everything on screen is a large, clearly labelled tile. One tap does what you'd expect it to. That's it.

For anyone who finds smartphones difficult - whether due to vision, dexterity, memory, or simply not having grown up with touchscreens - this makes all the difference.

Features

Simple for them
One-tap video calling
Tap a contact's face to call. That's the entire interface. No menus, no dialling, no app to find.
Large photo contact tiles
Faces and names fill the screen. Contacts are set up and managed remotely by family or carers.
Auto-answer for trusted contacts
Family members marked as trusted can connect directly, so the user doesn't need to do anything at all.
High-contrast touchscreen
Large interface elements, bold typography and strong contrast throughout. Designed from day one for reduced vision.
No passwords, no learning curve
The device arrives configured. The user never sees a settings screen, a login prompt, or a software update.
Everything else
Video voicemail
Missed calls are recorded as short video messages. The user sees a gentle notification and can play them back with one tap.
Messaging
Family can send text, photos, and voice messages from the app or portal. Messages appear on screen with a gentle chime.
Medication & appointment reminders
Scheduled alerts with voice announcement and on-screen prompt. Family or carers add them remotely.
Daily photo carousel
Family send photos from their phones and they appear on screen throughout the day.
Clear speaker
Calibrated for speech intelligibility. Strong enough to hear clearly from across the room.
Bluetooth
Connects wirelessly to hearing aids, headphones and speakers.
Built to Last
Automatic updates
Improvements install overnight. The user never notices.
Right to repair
Every component is replaceable. No planned obsolescence.
Physical reset button
Hold for 10 seconds and it returns to a clean working state.
